As a result, pure substances (like mineral oil or acetylated lanolin alcohol) that scored high in rabbit ears often demonstrate zero comedogenic potential when formulated at physiological concentrations in finished human cosmetic products.

High-Risk Ingredient Profiles in Acne-Prone Skin

  • Synthetic Esters: Isopropyl myristate, isopropyl isostearate, and myristyl myristate demonstrate high penetration rates into the follicular canal, where they can induce hyperkeratinization.
  • Heavy Triglycerides: Highly saturated plant butters (such as cocoa butter and coconut oil) contain lauric and myristic acids that may aggregate corneocytes in susceptible skin.
