Azelaic Acid in Clinical Dermatology: Multi-Pathway Therapy for Acne and Erythema

Azelaic acid is a naturally occurring saturated 9-carbon dicarboxylic acid produced by the yeast Malassezia furfur. In modern dermatology, it is one of the most versatile and well-tolerated topical therapies available, uniquely indicated for both acne vulgaris and rosacea.
